Cardinals Continue Coaching Interviews

Cardinals president Michael Bidwill, here at the season finale in Seattle, has led a multi-interview road trip over the past few days.
Steve Keim has talked about "leaving no stone unturned" before in many circumstances, including the ongoing current search for a new head coach - and the Cardinals are certainly working hard in a short amount of time to interview a number of candidates.

Maneuvering through the rules of assistants for playoff teams, Cardinals president Michael Bidwill and GM Keim found themselves Monday in Atlanta to interview Falcons special teams coach Keith Armstrong, according to multiple reports. (They attended the National Championship game between Alabama and Georgia later Monday night.)

The Cardinals are also expected to interview Panthers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks this week, although Wilks is expected to interview with the Giants Tuesday.

After interviewing their own defensive coordinator, James Bettcher, last Wednesday, Bidwill and Keim have interviewed Vikings offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, Eagles quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo, Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia, Patriots linebackers coach Brian Flores and Steelers offensive line coach Mike Munchak.

Both Bettcher and Armstrong have ties to Bruce Arians. Bettcher, obviously, was Arians' defensive coordinator. Armstrong played for Arians at Temple.

Bidwill said last week - a couple of times -- the Cardinals would not rush the process. Bidwill would want anyone who would be offered the job to have visited the team's facilities in Tempe first. For those candidates still in the playoffs, that makes logistics difficult.

Most of the Cards' candidates are also in play for other openings - Wilks, for instance, is reportedly going to talk to not only the Giants and Cards this week but also the Colts.

Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy was named Bears head coach on Monday, with Jon Gruden named the new Raiders coach over the weekend. There are currently three head coaching openings besides the Cardinals - the Giants, Colts and Lions.
